Early summer and it’s time once again for the 14th Penn’s Wood Jeep® Jamboree. June is a great time of year to visit the Allegheny Highlands of Pennsylvania, and there is enough mud, water, rocks and other interesting obstacles to keep even the most experienced Jeep brand enthusiast happy. Sadly, if you don’t already have your reservations, you’ll have to live vicariously through this blog as this popular Jamboree sells out fast. No worries, we can give you the 411 on what you’re missing out on so you can make your reservations early for next year. While the biggest appeal of a Jeep Jamboree is obviously the trail access, Jeep Jamboree uses local guides who are experts on the area. Penn’s Wood Jamboree is no exception because the staff and your local guides deliver! Expect to visit some of those secret obstacles while learning some of the history of the local area.
Roughly 80 miles from Buffalo, New York, the Penn’s Wood Jeep Jamboree takes you into some of the most appealing and beautiful forests in the country. You can marvel at the Kinzua Train Viaduct. An engineering marvel, the Kinzua Bridge soared some 300 feet over the forest floor, ranking fourth in the tallest railway bridges in the United States before its collapse in 2003.
Another great thing to do in the area is to get on the Allegheny Geo Trail. Geocaching is an outdoor adventure activity where participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver to hide and seek containers of little treasures, called “geocaches” or “caches.” The Allegheny Geo Trail is simply a series of geocaches tied together by a common theme. Some say it is the largest of its kind, encompassing ten counties throughout northwestern and north-central Pennsylvania. The hunt to find these sometimes elusive caches will take you into some of the most rugged and scenic land of the Allegheny National Forest and its surrounding counties.
Want something a little more urban? Head three short hours southwest to Pittsburg and the PNC Stadium and take in a baseball game. We checked, and they’re playing at home the week after the Jeep Jamboree. Pittsburgh is a great place to hang out, and its central business district is an unusual triangular shape, formed by the joining together of the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers which forms into the Ohio River. Though it doesn’t have the reputation, the city’s unique combination of bridges, steep hills, and broad rivers make it one of the most naturally scenic cities in the country. There are a lot of amazing restaurants and you don’t have to go very far to find reasonably priced eats. It’s a big city with a small town feel.
Whatever you choose, you’re sure to have fun visiting this great state. We hope you get the opportunity to take the top off, drop into four wheel low, and have a blast at the Penn’s Wood Jeep Jamboree. Where do you like to go in Pennsylvania to get the most out of your Jeep brand vehicle?
